Vision-S02, Sony reveals its new electric SUV prototype

Sony has announced plans to enter the auto market with a mobility company and has showcased a new SUV concept of its own at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2022) in Las Vegas. This new concept car has been dubbed Sony Vision-S02 And it’s quite reminiscent of Tesla’s Model Y in terms of design.

Sony has wanted to get into the self-driving electric car business for years. In 2020 the brand introduced the Vision-S to demonstrate its autonomous driving and in-car entertainment systems. However, even though road tests for the car were already underway, it was never mass produced.

On the other hand, the Vision-S02 if it is being seriously considered to be manufactured in series and commercialized, although at the moment it is only a prototype. Either way, it’s worth getting to know and that’s exactly what we’re going to do next.

Sony has not released performance figures beyond confirming that the SUV can exceed 180 km / h and that and is driven by a 272hp electric motor on each axis. We also know that the seven-seat SUV is 4,895mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,651mm high; making it roughly the same size as the Tesla Model Y.

However, Sony’s main emphasis is on autonomous driving and the infotainment systems, so we should pay more attention to these aspects.

In this regard, Kenichiro Yoshida, the CEO of Sony, explained that the Vision-S02 is equipped with 40 sensors to monitor your security. If the configuration is the same as the previous model, then we are looking at 18 ToF cameras, 18 radars and 4 LiDAR sensors on board the vehicle.

In addition, Sony has provided the electric vehicle with speakers at each seat to create a three-dimensional audio experience immersive. To the above we must add the panoramic information and entertainment interface. As if that were not enough, the individual rear screens They can also be used to play videos or play video games through a remote connected PlayStation console.
