Tronxy is a very competitive manufacturer in the field of 3D printers, and models like the Tronxy X5SA-600 attest to the quality of their products; At the time of this writing, the company is on a virtually simultaneous release streak, and one of those recent releases is the Tronxy XY-3 SE, a printer aimed at the entry-level range. However, among so many products aimed at this range (by the same company), it is worth asking what makes it special, how to deserve our attention? Well, in this case it is a model that has a laser engraving module (optional) to engrave images in relief, in addition, it consists of a double extruder to print in two colors (also optional), reasons why the company treats it as a 3-in-1 solution.
Leaving aside its impressive additional modules, it is a conventional printer for its price, with a print size of 255 x 255 x 260mm, titan extruder, automatic leveling sensor and lattice glass hot bed, but which, put into the perspective of the current market, it is competitive and a great choice for 3D printing enthusiasts just starting out.

Design of this 3D printer
At first glance, the Tronxy XY-3 SE is like any entry-level 3D printer that we have seen, it is compact, as can be seen by its dimensions of 62 x 50 x 22.5cm, and exhibits aluminum extrusions with some plastic parts and a timing belt for Z axes. Interestingly, there is a handle on the top of the gantry that allows easy loading.
As usual, the electronics and motherboard are condensed at the base and the outer cable arrangement is organized enough. On the front we find a 3.5 inch HD touch screen which allows us to interact with the printer using the Tronxy interface feature.
For its part, the heated bed has a removable lattice glass surface that improves the adherence of the models and facilitates their removal once they are completed. That said, it is recommended to use some adhesive when printing with non-PLA filaments, as otherwise there will be problems with the first layers.
As expected, it comes pre-assembled, and the process to put everything in its place is simple, if you don’t believe us, take a look at the tutorial:
Printing and performance
The Tronxy XY-3 SE does not stand out for its build volume, which is limited to 255 x 255 x 260mm, but it stands out for the possibilities that we will explore later. Returning to the main topic, this machine uses a Titan extruder, so it can work with a wide variety of filaments in addition to PLA, such as ABS and PETG, as well as with flexible ones (TPU and TPE). Also, it prints at a maximum speed of 150mm / s, but obviously 60mm / s is still the recommended figure.
The real advantage of the Tronxy XY-3 SE over other printers of the same price, is the fact that it has automatic leveling TR sensor, which greatly facilitates the hot bed calibration process and improves the finish of the figures by eliminating some of that margin for human error.
As you would expect from any respected 3D printer, this machine features a filament sensor to warn the user when the spool is about to run out or if there is a problem with the spool supply. Similarly, it also incorporates printing resumption in the event of power outages.
The finish of the printed figures does not impress, but it does not disappoint either. The models have a good level of detail for the range we are dealing with; there is no appreciable warping or delamination, as well as no ghosting or vibrations to complain about. Perhaps the only downside is the construction volume itself, which is the minimum we can expect.
Modules that add many possibilities
It is this part that makes the Tronxy XY-3 SE go from ordinary to recommended, since it is a 3-in-1 machine when we take into consideration all the additional modules. The first of them is him laser engraver, which will allow us to carve contrasting images on fabrics, leather, plywood and acrylic materials. Second, we have the dual color extruder, which allows mixing colors and materials in a simple and effective way, opening up additional printing possibilities.
However, all this comes with a downside, and that is that these modules must be purchased separately or, rather, we must purchase the version of the printer that includes them; therefore, we can expect to add up to an additional 80 euros to our purchase if we want to have the complete package. The saving grace of the matter is that the XY-3 SE is a very inexpensive machine, which can easily be obtained below 300 euros, so in the end it is not expensive at all to get the complete combo.
Availability and price of the Tronxy XY-3 SE
Those interested in this 3D printer will be able to find it for sale on Amazon, but it is also available on Geekbuying for a reasonable price and in its versions that include laser engraver and double extruder. If none of the above options convince you, maybe Gearbest will.
- Very affordable price
