SPC Glow 10.1 and SPC Heaven 10.1, which one are we left with?

Are you looking for a new tablet for the summer or already with a view to going back to school? Now is the time to buy them at the best price and enjoy everything they offer us. The Gizoficina has passed the SPC Glow 10.1 and SPC Heaven 10.1, two very similar models with a fantastic quality / price ratio and excellent autonomy.

If you want to know the differences between both models of Spc and see them in action, don’t miss our review.

Design and materials

We start talking about the SPC Glow 10.1 model with its polycarbonate unibody construction and with different colors for the back. The choice of this material does not have to be something negative since we have not detected high temperatures using the tablet in video games. In fact, it is a widely used material in this input range. The dimensions of the tablet are 250 x 160 x 10 mm and a weight of 507 g. Figures very similar to other models with a 10.1-inch screen. However, we found some aesthetic differences in the SPC Heaven 10.1 model, starting with its metal construction with profiled edges. The dimensions of the tablet differ slightly with a thickness of 9 mm but with a greater weight for its battery, reaching 570 g.

So far the main design differences of both tablets since the rest of the aspects are maintained in both models. As is the placement of a front camera in the upper right corner, a 10.1-inch screen with a 16:10 ratio and the brand’s silkscreen printing. The same happens with the rear with a 2 MP camera and single speaker on both models.

As for the connections, we have a charging connector, headphone jack, Micro USB 2.0 connector for reading and charging, microSD and mini HDMI card slot. With regard to the buttons, we have been surprised by not incorporating a physical volume control, but will have to use the operating system bar. We only have 2 buttons: one of them to lock or turn on the device and another that acts as a back button.

Performance of both tablets

Both SPC tablets use a SoC AllWinner composed of 4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores with a 1.3 GHz frequency and a Mali-400 GPU. In the case of the SPC Glow 10.1 tablet, the brand offers up to 3 different configurations: 1 GB RAM / 8 GB ROM, 1 GB RAM / 16 GB ROM and 2 GB RAM / 32 GB ROM. In this way, it adapts to the user’s needs in terms of technical requirements and budget. In the case of the SPC Heaven 10.1 model, the tablet is configured with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. In both models, the storage can be expanded with the use of a microSD card of up to 32 GB. Both models have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, with Play Store and in a very clean rom of not very useful applications.

Therefore, performance will affect considerably depending on the version chosen on the SPC Glow 10.1 model. The brand provided us with a unit with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, the most powerful version. The performance obtained has exceeded expectations in most uses although it falters in the use of demanding video games, as expected. Its use is rather indicated for consultation of social networks, web browsing, Android apps, document reading or video-streaming viewer such as YouTube or Netflix. The same happens in the Heaven model having the same CPU and RAM configuration. We have also detected that both tablets take several seconds to turn on the screen once it is locked, even reaching 3 seconds.

Screen, sound and cameras

SPC mounts an IPS panel with a 10.1 inch diagonal on both models. Its HD resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels maintains a 16:10 aspect ratio (improving what was seen in the SPC Glee 10.1). The panel offers good colors, wide viewing angles and a level of brightness sufficient to work outdoors. Its resolution is within the minimum required for a tablet with this screen, easy to navigate and wide to see audiovisual content in HD quality. The weakest point is in the reflections of the glass, something that other inexpensive tablets also suffer.

That the section of sound be one of the great forgotten brands, it is nothing new. SPC is no exception with a speaker that is bordering on the approved. For its range, you can’t ask for much more, but at high volume levels, the audio can become distorted. In the settings menu we have a couple of options like a 3d sound effect for use with headphones. None of the tablets includes FM radio.

Tablet cameras hardly attract the attention of manufacturers, in fact, it is rare to see a sensor greater than 5 MP in these devices. SPC tablets incorporate a 2 MP sensor for the main camera and a 0.3 MP sensor for the front for video calls. Their quality is close to that approved by the hair with respect to the sensor, for specific uses and without major pretensions. The cameras do not have a focus system and when enlarging the image we find the popular watercolor effect, so the definition of the contours is not within its characteristics.

Connectivity and autonomy

Regarding connectivity, we have a connector Micro USB with OTG support to connect storage drives, to read or transfer stored files. It is also possible to connect it to a television or projector through its mini HDMI port. We also see a headphone jack, a microSD card slot, and the charging connector. Regarding the wireless connection, the SPC tablets have Bluetooth 4.0 to link other devices such as speakers or mobiles, GPS and WiFi 802.11 b / g / n. Unfortunately, SPC Heaven 10.1 does not have a slot for a SIM to enjoy the Internet wherever we are, of the other model there is a specific version with this connection.

The autonomy borders on good figures in both cases, being within the average of the range. In the case of the SPC tablet Glow 10.1 we have registered 4.5 hours of screen according to the PcMark test with its 5,000 mAh battery. A little above is the SPC tablet Heaven 10.1 with its 6,000 mAh battery and an autonomy that slightly exceeds the 5 hours of screen time. These are not figures that break the mold but they offer daily performance without depending on the charger to reach the end of the day. In addition, it is possible to charge it using the Micro USB 2.0 connector to use a powerbank such as the Onda M100T.
