Raspbian Pixel, new desktop environment for Raspberry Pi.

Raspbian Pixel has been officially announced in the blog of Rapsbian.org; a pleasant surprise for lovers of these single board mini PCs. A new desktop environment that will come installed by default as of now on this Debian based operating system optimized for Raspberry Pi hardware.

Raspbian Pixel, a complete facelift for the Raspberry Pi.

Raspbian Jessie was until now the version of this operating system most used for Raspberry Pi; it is even commonly considered the official OS. The desktop environment that Jessie came with, without being very pretty to say, was quite functional and formed a perfect symbiosis together with the hardware: a basic system for basic hardware.

We say that this was so because recently Simon Long, belonging to the Raspberry Pi Foundation, has announced the launch of Raspbian Pixel, a revamped desktop environment which translates into a complete facelift for Raspbian Jessie to make it more visually attractive.

System load, Login, Widescreen backgrounds, icons, window decorator, fonts …

Although Raspbian Pixel has new functions and applications, most of these improvements have focused on the visual aspect of the desktop: starting from the moment the system loads.

Before, when we started Raspbian on our Raspberry Pi, the first thing we saw was the messages from the system loader: a hideous screen full of letters and numbers that has been replaced by a new welcome screen.

Then came the desktop itself with a bland white wallpaper with the raspberry logo that now we can switch and choose from 16 images easily from Appearance Settings.
