LG lowers the blind on its mobile division and will not launch new smartphones

This is the chronicle of a death foretold. The LG company, leader in some sectors of both B2B and B2C, has been pulling the cord of its mobile phone division for some years and fighting against a market that has not always been positioned in its favor. Despite having always shown a courageous and innovative character, with devices such as the modular smartphone LG G5 or the newly released LG Wing, with two screens, one vertical and the other horizontal, the fall of its mobile division has just been officially announced.

LG stops producing mobile phones, but will continue with other sectors

Today, April 5, 2021, the company’s Board of Directors has approved the closure of the mobile business unit, based on several years of losses. With this move, the manufacturer will focus on other divisions that are paying off, such as IoT, robotics, electric vehicles, image and sound or B2B solutions.

The closure of this division is scheduled for July 31, 2021, at which time new models will no longer be launched on the market. However, those submitted prior to this date will continue to be available for purchase, in addition to continuing to offer user support, maintaining their software updates according to the policy they have followed to date and with the usual after-sales service. In this way, those users who own a smartphone from the company can have the peace of mind that the accessories and spare parts they need will be available, as well as the guarantee stipulated by law.

Talking about mobile sector technologies, the company has wanted to clarify that they will continue working with them to take advantage of the slipstream of more than twenty years of experience in this segment and strengthen their competitiveness in other areas. An example is that of 6G.
