Canadian e-reader manufacturer, Kobo, is pleased to introduce not one, but two e-readers. We are talking about the new Kobo Sage and Kobo Libra 2, which stand out for incorporating Bluetooth and the best features in devices of this type. As you might expect, both hit the market via Fnac and with various optional accessories to enhance the experience.
Without a doubt the Kobo Sage is the more interesting of the two, and it is shaping up to be a high-end eReader with 8 inch e Ink letter display, which exhibits a 1,499 x 1,920 pixel resolution and a density of 300ppp. Naturally, the panel consists of functions to make reading more enjoyable and comfortable, starting with the Comfort Light Pro brightness and temperature control.
Additionally, it allows conversion of handwriting into digital text, which obviously implies that it is compatible with a digital pen; specifically the Kobo Stylus, which supports various levels of pressure.
That said, the device has size dimensions of 160.5 x 181.4 x 7.6mm and consists of IPX8 resistance against water, which means that you can take a dip 2 meters deep for 1 hour.
Under the hood lies some unimpressive hardware, but it was to be expected. We are talking about a Quad-Core 1.8GHz chip with an unspecified amount of RAM. What we do know is that it includes 32GB internal storage. If that figure seems low to you, don’t worry, Kobo readers integrate with Dropbox to store even more books in the cloud. In another vein, the device is powered by a 1,200mAh battery capable of lasting weeks.
However, the most interesting addition to the Kobo Sage – and also the Kobo Libra – is the Bluetooth connectivity debut, which is designed to listen to audiobooks with greater comfort.
Kobo Libra 2
For its part, the Kobo Libra 2 is a smaller device, with 7-inch screen and resolution of 1,264 x 1,680 pixels. However, it boasts the same core features as the Kobo Sage, such as Comfort Light Pro technology, waterproofing, and Bluetooth connectivity.
There is one or another internal difference, since the device uses a lower power chip (1Ghz) and a slightly larger battery; from 1,500mAh to be precise, but nothing really significant besides the presentation and of course, the price.
Availability and price
Speaking of prices, the Kobo Sage and Kobo Libra 2 get on sale on October 19 for a price of 289.99 euros and 189.99 euros, respectively. The pre-sale is active from the moment of publication of this information.
