Anycubic Kobra Neo, we praised the lite version of the Kobra series

The Anycubic Kobra 3D printer series it has proven to be particularly successful in the entry and mid-range, so it comes as no surprise that the company responsible has decided to add another member to the family. We are talking about the new Anycubic Kobra Neo, a model oriented towards the basic range that offers a lot for a low price.

For context, we are dealing with a machine that offers us a humble 250 x 220 x 220mm build volume with Bowden extrusion. It is also worth mentioning that it has advanced features despite its low price, starting with the automatic leveling of 25 points.

With that in mind, here At Gizlogic we have had the opportunity to test this 3D printer on our own and today we tell you how our experience with her was and what she has to offer us.

If we talk about construction and design, it is clear that this machine is a rehash of the Anycubic Kobra, although it is a little smaller by a matter of centimeters. The fact that it has an inherited design does not mean anything bad, in fact, it means that it preserves the elegance of its series, which is characterized by combining an aluminum structure with plastic pieces engraved with decorative patterns.

As in the other models, the Anycubic Kobra Neo condenses the electronic part and the power supply inside the base of the printer. Another interesting aspect of the machine is the XY axis belt tensioner with knob design, as it makes it easier to adjust the belt tension. In this sense, it can be operated with your hands.

We cannot forget to mention the textured PEI coated magnetic steel plate, which serves as the printing surface and considerably facilitates the task of removing the prints. To do this, we extract the sheet once it is cold and bend it a little until the model yields.

To interact with the printer we have a 2.4-inch LCD screen, which unfortunately is not tactile, so you have to operate it with the knob next to it. The interface is intuitive and functional, but we cannot say that it is available in Spanish, only in Chinese and English.

As you would expect from most DIY 3D printers, the Anycubic Kobra Neo ships unassembled and we have to do our part to get it up and running.

These are the steps we had to follow to put it together:

  1. We start by joining the upper frame / portico with the base. To do this we have to screw 4 screws with the largest Allen key included in the package and unwind the cable from the head that comes coiled to the bed for protection.
  2. We put the end of the race. This only requires 1 screw and running the wire through.
  3. We install the print head by 4 screws.
  4. We connect the display wire and we screwed it, very simple.
  5. We fix the filament supportfor this we screw the tube to the mast and screw.
  6. We staple the wiring with the fixation you have.
  7. We proceed to plug in all the cablesin total there are 6 connections, of which 3 come ready.

Once all this is done, we suggest checking that there is no play in the axes.

3D printing and features

The Anycubic Kobra Neo offers us a 250 x 220 x 220mm build volume, the least we would expect in a 3D printer today. Likewise, it can work with the most common filaments on the market, including PLA, TPU, ABS and PETG, and can print at a maximum speed of 100mm/s, but know that the recommended figure is 60mm/s.

If you are wondering about the print quality, we have to say that is on par with what we would expect from its older siblings, which is great for such an affordable 3D printer. The test model that we have put to print turned out well defined and clean of imperfections other than a bit of banding at the base.

In another order of ideas, we really like the fact that a 3D printer as affordable as this has automatic leveling, as it makes our lives significantly easier and makes it appropriate for newbies. As if that were not enough, it is a fairly precise system which the manufacturer has baptized as Levi Q. It uses an inductive probe that maps a 25-point mesh in each leveling routine, and if that’s not enough, the algorithm takes into account variations on your build platform.

It is also worth mentioning the presence of a separate Bowden extruder. With the extruder and hotend separated, the latter is lighter and encounters less inertia while moving, allowing for faster print speeds.

Another detail worthy of our attention is the print resume function in case of power failure. However, we must warn that it does not have a filament sensor, since it is sold separately, but it does support it.

Connectivity and software

There really isn’t much we can say in this section, it has a USB port (which is now type C) and an SD slot for memory cards. Ultimaker Cura is recommended as cutting program.
