Android 12L, the 2nd beta is now available and this is what’s new

Recently, Google released the second beta version of Android 12L for eligible devices. Both ISO system images and OTA updates are available on the Google site for all compatible devices; with the exception of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which have already been dealing with update delays since December and could sadly be delayed even further.

Through this second beta, Google’s operating system optimized for devices with large screens and folding smartphones receives improvements, new features and corrections of vital errors to reach a stable version.

Speaking of stable version, Google confirmed that with the second beta the system behaviors and APIs of Android 12L are specified; this marks an important milestone that allows for the final testing and development work necessary to ensure that developers can deliver compatible versions of their apps with the new update on time.

Android 12L, news from the second beta

In this sense, we can mainly expect fixes and optimizations for developers with this beta; but some new features have also been added that we users can appreciate on our own.

Beginning lesson, Android 12L beta 2 makes popup buttons round which gives (or removes) access to the camera and microphone. In this same design line, rounded corners are introduced for the split screen, one of the most outstanding features of Android 12L.

It also comes to light new shortcut to disable airplane mode and the new animations that the power/lock menu does when it is opened from quick settings.

curiously too changed the position of the clock on the lock screen especially for those who hate the large clock format introduced with Android 12. Additionally, they added a “Dual dial clock” option in ‘Settings > Display > Lock screen’.

The rest of the changes are very subtle and lie in bug fixes; such as an issue causing bitmap images to disappear or render incorrectly in widgets, which has been fixed along with several others.

Compatible devices

Nothing has changed from the first beta when it comes to eligible devices, with the clear exception of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which missed the appointment due to complications, but still have a promised update.

Before finishing we want to reiterate that the third and final beta is scheduled for mid-February, while the stable version is scheduled for sometime in March if all goes well.
